Earth

Earth is the only planet in the solar system not named after a mythological being. Instead, its name is derived from the Old English word "ertha" and the Anglo-Saxon word "erda" which means ground or soil.

The Earth's surface is made up of plates, like pieces of a jigsaw, with can move around. Earth moves around the Sun in a place known as the Goldilocks Zone, becouse it's not too hot and not too cold. It's just right! Earth is also the only planet with liquid water at the surface an lots of plants and animals. There are human beings everywhere!

Our atmosphere is made mostly of nitrogen and has a lot of oxygen for us to breathe. The atmosphere also protects us from incoming meteoroids, most of which break up in our atmosphere before they can strike the surface as meteorites.
