The story of space

planet venus

Venus

Even though Venus isn't the closest planet to the sun, it is still the hottest. It has a thick atmosphere full of the greenhouse gas and clouds made of sulfuric acid. The gas traps heat and keeps Venus realy hot.

Venus looks like a very active planet. It has mountains and volcanoes. Venus is the second planet from the Sun and the third brightest object in Earth's sky after the Sun and Moon. It is sometimes referred to as the sister planet to Earth, because their size and mass are so similar. Earth is just a little bit bigger. Just like Mercury, Venus doesn’t have any moons.

Venus is unusual. Most other planets rotate counter-clockwise on their axis, however Venus, like Uranus, rotates clockwise. This is known as a retrograde rotation and may have been caused by a collision with an asteroid or other object which caused the planet to change its rotational path. And its rotation is very slow. Due to the slow rotation on its axis, it takes 243 Earth days to complete one rotation. The orbit of the planet takes 225 Earth days – making a year on Venus shorter than one day on Venus. Becouse of that the sun rises every 117 Earth days. That means the sun rises two times during each year on Venus, even though it is still the same day! And because Venus rotates backwards, the sun rises in the west and sets in the east.
